A good head takes countless hours to fully port and you're also paying a big chunk for experience. If it was me and I was just starting out I'd do some polishing primarily concentrating on the exhaust side and maybe open things up a touch without altering port shape. Read up everything you can, experiment, cut up some heads to see internal port shape and passages, talk to anyone who has extensive and proven experience and are willing to give advice, etc. Not so much to go after the biggest numbers but to ensure flow equality among cylinder/ports.Įveryone has to start somewhere and the Neon heads are pretty cheap. If you're doing minor work you can measure each port to try to maintain flow but a good porter will have access to a flow bench. You might improve flow numbers but also harm velocity and decrease performance. You can make something look nice and shiny but that doesn't mean it will work better.
